In another lifetime, I was a drama student at a conservatory. Well, it was five years ago, but it feels like a lifetime. Anyway, one of the things I learned while I was there is that red, blue, and green (not yellow) are the primary colors of light.
I also think that they are the primary colors of fashion. We're talking colors here; not black, white, brown, or other neutrals. When it comes to color, it all starts with the classics: red, blue, and green.
Red is so versatile and looks good on nearly everyone (It's also classic shade for lipstick and nails); blue jeans are pretty much the foundation of most people's wardrobes; and green is a semi-neutral that looks classic whether you're wearing hunter green Wellies or an olive green military-inspired jacket.
I wish I could say I had all that in mind when I got dressed this morning. But, the truth is that I woke up at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. So, around 7, I bundled up ('cause it's cold out there!) and headed out to get coffee, return a library book, and pick up some Brussels sprouts and kale (all walking distance, might I add; I so love this neighborhood!)
Thus, in an effort to be warm, I assembled what seems to be the feminine version of the outfit all my male comedian friends wear every day: the is-he-a-hipster-or-is-he-homeless-or-both?-chic look. I kind of love it.
I also love cuffing my jeans to this awkward not-quite-cropped-not-quite-long-enough length to show more of my pretty vintage riding boots. (Also done in this look)
Red thermal shirt - Eddy Bauer, Christmas gift from Ryan's parents
Fuzzy hoodie - Anthropologie, Christmas gift from my brother many years ago (seen in full here)
Olive green toggle jacket - Target
Hand-knit half turban - made for me by my friend Barb
P.S. I've just entered Refinery29's super excited New Big Style Blogger contest. You can help me win my clicking this link and then clicking the heart next to my photo. I'm in a red dress with saddle oxfords and I'm listed as Fashion is Evolution. Thanks a ton, everyone! Your support means so much to me! XOXO
