I don't know about where you live, but here, Independence Day celebrations always seem to start a day ahead, and I like to be ready with a patriotic outfit in tow. This skirt is one of several versions I've made out of men's shirt sleeves (see others versions here, here, and here). It's fun to wear because some people figure it out or ask about it, while others don't seem to notice what it is at all.
The chambray shirt is one of my very favorite items of clothing that I own, which is strange because I was initially a bit on the fence about buying it, since I'm not generally that enthusiastic about button-downs. Does that ever happen to you; you aren't in love with at item at first sight, but it soon becomes a favorite?
Anyway, the chambray is very, very lightweight which makes it perfect for a sweltering day like yesterday.
Which brings me to our soundtrack for today . . .
Ruffled chambray shirt - The Limited (last seen here, here, here, here, and here)
Skirt - DIY, made from men's shirt sleeves (other versions here, here, and here)
Eyelet oxfords - gift (last seen here)
Pavé cable link bracelet - gift, J.Crew (last seen here, here, here, and here)
It's funny; as I was putting in links for the credits right there, I realized that this outfit is made up primarily of sartorial comfort food: pieces I go back to over and over again. What are your comfort items?
