What I wore today: 06/30/2012 (Maxi Peplum)

Maxi peplum outfit: striped jersey maxi skirt, metal leopard sandals, peplus pointe tank, vintage Moschino belt, etc.

Seeing Other People by Belle & Sebastian on Grooveshark

Another way to keep a maxi from looking sloppy (as discussed here) is to pair it with a structured top. In the colder months, a blazer could do wonders. In the absurd, 90-degree weather we've been having in the midwest this week, a light peplum tank works well.

This belt is one of my favorite pieces. I can't count the number of outfits I've worn where this belt was the showcase piece: the thing that pulled everything together. Most recently, you've seen it in my anniversary outfit, and last summer you saw it paired with a dress I made. But, you probably haven't seen these old lookbook.nu posts that feature it: here, here, and here.

Update: found the Zac Posen dress

Earlier today, in a post about Target re-releasing favorite dresses from past Go International collaborations, I mentioned my disappointment that this stunner by Zac Posen would not be included.

Well, I searched for it on Ebay, found it for the original retail price of $49.99, and snatched it up. Mineminemine :D

SATC Half gloves

I've been dying for some soft leather half gloves ever since Pat Field put them on Carrie years ago. Well, I just found some on Ebay for a great price and I'm over the moon about it. They come in a ton of colors, so check out the shop to find your preference.

New obsession: crinoline petticoats

Watching videos on Stylelikeu.com, I saw crinoline petticoats on Jane Aldridge and Ali Lovell and have become gradually obsessed with them. I love how '50s-and-'60s they look, how ladylike. I want to get a couple (they're cheap on eBay) and wear them with to-the-knee circle skirts and A-lines. That's also my next big sewing project: making a bunch of to-the-knee skirts from fun fabrics.

Fashion Quest: Black lace booties

I am on a quest for some black lace booties. The inspiration for my obsession began with these VERY SPECIAL transparent Chanel booties that Jane Aldridge has in her closet.

Since then I fell almost equally in love in with these black lace booties by Christian Louboutin, which feature the same lovely shape (both sides of the shoe coming together in the middle with black trim) but are a touch more everyday than the exquisitely costumy Chanel ones.

Now I'm attempting to find something with a smaller price tag than the $720 one the Louboutin's are sporting. (The Chanels were limited release and can't be found anywhere ever if I could afford them.)

First I checked Ebay and found these from Kim Kardashian's line for Shoedazzle. They're okay, but I want something with at least a little more of the spirit that my inspiration has. If not the exact shape, at least the lightly of a peep toe. Also the ankle straps on these are a little too tough for what I want.

On a side note, Kim is obviously just ripping off these Louboutins with this design. I refer you to the ankle straps.

No?

Anyway, after Ebay I searched Shopbop and Shopstyle and found these from Victoria's Secret, but again they are too tough and not dainty enough for what I want...

...and these lovely Valentino's (one of my favorite designers), which cary a hefty $1,045 price tag.

But then there are these on Newport News. They are almost exactly what I want and only $60.00. Another successful fashion quest.
