One of the cool things about having a birthday dinner with my family before my actual birthday is that I get to have two birthday outfits. See last year's birthday outfits here and here.
For dinner last night, I wanted to wear this spike-studded headband, which I hope looks more like a punk rock tiara than like something the Stature of Liberty might wear, though Ryan thought the whole outfit had a bit of a Cleopatra look to it, so who knows.
To soften the studded headband, I wore a girly dress (also because I do still like to feel like a princess on my birthday, just like I did when I was 3 -- I even twirled a bit as you can see.)
I love wearing my biker jacket with a girly dress. Something about the combination makes me feel like an Italian girl on the back of a vespa, speeding through the streets of Rome.
As you can probably tell, it's not so much practicality or rules of style, but rather various mingled fantasies that primarily direct my sartorial choices. I'm ok with that.
