What I wore today: 04/26/2015 (Over/Under)

I love overalls. When examining my style, recently, I realized that I must have a subconscious desire to dress like Tom Sawyer, and overalls definitely fit that bill. So do straw hats, simple button down shirts, worn ankle boots, and high-water pants that hit at awkward lengths. Sign me up.

My sister-in-law gave me this shirt for Christmas. It says "Célflie" like a mock Céline logo, and I think it's perfect for me, because my name is Célèste (with accents!) and, as a blogger, I take a lot of selfies.

What I wore today: 02/15/2014 (Sparkle and Stripes)

I bought this dress with an Oscars party in mind, but I didn't want to wait that long to wear it, so I pulled it out for my Valentine's weekend date with Ryan to dinner and the ballet.

By the way, if there is a snowstorm on Valentine's Day, you probably shouldn't assume you can get a table at any of the myriad restaurants in a popular neighborhood the next day. There will be a two-and-a-half hour wait at all of them and you will be reminded why you could never live in New York City. Not that this has happened to me.

Anyway, this dress is just too much: the proportions, the color, the width of the stripes; it's all too much, and that is exactly why I like it. Since the dress was already too, too much, I naturally decided to pair it with a bag that has ears.

What I wore today: 07/20/2013 (Straw & Stripes)

Last Saturday, we met up with friends and family to see Ryan's brother's girlfriend's roller derby bout. Roller derby is one of the most fun sports to watch, and it's even more fun with a big group of people, a bucket of beer, and a hot dog. This is what I wore.

There's something to be said for the versatility of striped shirts. They are one of my favorite basics, a go-to item that I can't get enough of. 

Here, I paired a favorite short-sleeved version with a straw hat and a vintage skirt. I like the way the girliness of the skirt balances out the masculinity of the hat.

What I wore today: 04/23/2013 (Les Pays Bas)

For some reason blue, red and yellow florals make me think of The Netherlands even when they're not tulips. Consequently, I get the urge to wear my hair in maiden braids. I don't kid myself that either of these things is representative of modern Dutch fashion, but sometimes you want to look like the girl on the windmill cookie box. You know, those terribly overbrown windmill cookies your mom used to buy you at the health food store?

So, I just googled that and discovered there actually never was a girl on those boxes, so I have no idea where my image of a stereotypical Dutch girl actually comes from.

But the point is that some days you want to wear a costume, and you want to feel like a girl in braids and primary-colored florals and possibly wooden shoes who stands in a field (possibly of tulips) in front of a windmill. And, last week, I was having one of those days.

Also stripes and florals look rad together. The end.

What I Wore Today: 04/14/2013 (Bradford)

In the springtime, I find myself wanting to wear more colors, wanting to mix colors to form unexpected combinations, and wanting to parade out all my favorite patterns like stripes and dots.

I cherish this time in fashion, this short period we get in spring and again in fall where weather isn't such a dictator of what we can wear. I relish the freedom of light layers.

Without the cardigan, this outfit would be perfect for the Fourth of July, but it's still a bit cold out, so I added a layer and found I really liked the new direction that mint took the color story.

By the way, only looking at the photos now do I realize that I happened to have on mint and red nail polish to match my outfit perfectly. A complete lucky coincidence!

What I wore today: 03/09/2013 (La Marinière)

I will always feel a pull toward simplicity, toward the effortless timelessness of dark jeans and une marinière. In fact, striped shirts are such all-stars in my wardrobe, that, much like with gray sweatshirts, I am constantly buying new ones, often each with its own little variation on the classic look. 

There's the black, white, and mint one I wore here, and the red and white one I wore here, the cashmere sweater version see here, and the dress and tunic versions seen here and here. 

In this outfit, a boatneck-framing ruffle does the legwork. Of course accessories always keep a simple outfit from looking boring. I'm a big believing in piling on the bracelets and the rings. 

Ryan and I took these photos outside on a unseasonably warm Saturday after running in the park. I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I enjoyed mine!

I'm currently working on a fresh design for the blog that should give it a whole new, clean look. I've been wanting this for a while, and I am very excited about the direction the design process is taking. I can't wait share it with you!
