Ryan and I had a blast on our trip to Chicago. I hadn't been there (for longer than a 5AM-7AM Greyhound-to-Amtrack layover) since I was so young that American Girl Place was at the top of my agenda. So, needless to say, there was a lot to see and do.
We stayed with Ryan's uncle Greg and Greg's husband John. They are definitely favorite relatives of mine, so I was excited. They were incredible hosts, and I'm so grateful to them for opening up their beautiful home to us. While in town, we also visited my longtime friend Kate, her boyfriend Vu, and her sister Lauren. And then, there was the main event: shopping for a wedding gown with my friend Sarah. (Expect an Instagram recap of that experience sometime next week.)
It was so great that we could not only tour such a beautiful city together, but do so surrounded by loved ones whom we don't get to see often enough.
One of the blessing of our relationship is that Ryan and I have compatible travel styles. Whether we are in Chicago, Paris, Stockholm, Amish country, Philadelphia, or any of the other places we've vacationed together, we like to walk around for hours and hours, admiring the beauty of the place with little to no agenda. We may pop into a museum or two, but mostly the city is our museum.
We also like to make food a priority when we travel, and Chicago did not disappoint in this department, from the curried salmon my dear friend Kate prepared for us in her Hyde Park apartment, to the trendy sushi Sarah and I indulged in after shopping, to the strictly-no-ketchup Chicago-style hot dogs Ryan and I enjoyed while strolling along the lake after an afternoon at the Aquarium.
Chicago, we love you. See you again soon!
