Awkward Socks
Lately I've been enjoying wearing a lot of socks that probably make me look like a crazy person. I can't help it. I love cozy, lacy socks, and, the more I wear them, the more I love them. In fact, I think it's their essential awkwardness that makes me love them so much.
I'm often drawn to things that are classic but a bit off: dresses with over-the-top proportions, shoes that look at little like hooves, baby bangs. I think there's something in their intentional messiness that feels so fresh and punk and authentic.

What I wore today: 06/29/2013 (Pattern of all Patience)
The bad thing about cheap Target dresses with elastic waistbands is that you have to wear a belt with them. The great thing is that they force you out of your lazy dressing pattern by insisting on an accessory. See this dress styled for winter here.
I was feeling the subtle southwest affect of this dress's print when I decided to wear huaraches. I used to wear colored huaraches that we bought in Mexico all the time as a kid, so, when I saw these at Urban Outfitters, I couldn't pass them up. I love the nostalgia that clothing can so easily induce.
What articles of clothing make you nostalgic?
Navy and teal print dress - Target
Patterned belt - Anthropologie
Rainbow leather huaraches - Urban Outfitters
Necklace - J.Crew Factory

DI(fr)Yday: How to Make Miu Miu-Inspired Glitter and Suede Shoes
Like everyone else in the blogosphere, I exploded with gushy love over Miu Miu's glitter and suede shoes from the A/W 2011 shows. Since then, I've considered buying a used pair on eBay multiple times, exhaustively searched the Internet for a good knockoff pair, and brainstormed how best to DIY a pair.
The main problem with most knockoffs and DIY concepts was that they didn't include the amazing curved heel shape, which is one of my favorite things about the shoes.
Then, I found this pair from Target, which, though not a direct Miu Miu knockoff, features the curved heel shape I love so much. I decided they would make the perfect base for a DIY.

What I Wore Today: 04/16/2013 (Paint it Black)
I do not endorse rubber flip flops outside of a dormitory's communal shower, but I do love a flat sandal, especially one with a little metal detailing. As such, these shoes were one of the three items I brought home from Praba Gurung's collection for Target. (See the others here and here.) With weather what it is, however, I didn't get to wear them until this week.
By the way, did you notice how I mentioned in my last outfit post that spring makes me want to wear lots of colors, and then followed that up with a completely black, white, and gray ensemble? Yeah, consistency isn't always my strong point.
I have a colorful iPhone case, though.

Metal-detail sandals - Prabal Gurung for Target
Gray "Stevie" jeans - AG, Anthropologie
People-pring silk camisole - Anthropologie
White cardigan - Target
Pavé cable link bracelet - J.Crew
Knocker bracelet - Tibi
Art-deco "deco-trinket bangle" bracelet - Anthropologie
Nail-polish striped iPhone case - DIY

Spring Wish List
The arrival of spring has put me in the mood for lots of fun colors, especially brights and pastels! And, as we do some spring cleaning, I've had my eye on a few small decorative items for our home. I've also had my eye on some different styles of jeans like boyfriend, super-high-rise skinnies, and front patch pockets. I think I might need to expand my denim collection a bit this spring.

What I wore today: 03/20/2013 (Hello, Sneaks!)
These are my third pair of sneaker wedges. The first two are bulky with huge tongues and velcro-strap closures. After resisting the urge to buy another pair for a while, I finally decided that I wanted something with laces and a slimmer, more feminine shape.
This pair fit the bill perfectly. I love the colors and their quilted detailing. I don't usually build an outfit starting with a pair of shoes, but that's exactly what I did here.

I love this casual look that's all about the details, but I can't wait to create a fun, opposites-attract look by wearing these sneaks with a beige pencil skirt when the weather gets warmer.

What I wore today: 01/27/2013 (Heavy Rotation)
For a novelty sweater, this "La Parisienne" intarsia number from J.Crew has been seeing a lot of action since I purchased it in November. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that it's super warm. I've learned in recent years that cotton sweaters are total bullshit and a complete waste of time. Wool or cashmere fo' life!
This polka-dot blouse is in heavy rotation too. It's so versatile because it's black and brown and can be easily layered under things or over things.
As for the boots, I've been looking or something like them since I saw these Freebird by Steven ones on Shopbop and Free People. I've kept an eye out for a while for a good pair of leather ankle boots that I could insert pieces of a Mexican blanket into. But, before those turned up, these Target ones did. I've got to say, Target has been so good creating designer inspired shoes lately. Case and point: sneaker wedges.

What I wore today: 11/10/2012 (Belted)

I've been pretty into belting blazers since this. I don't know why I keep feeling the need to bring out the turquoise in this "Swayze" but I do. Se also.
By the way, if you don't have a pair of teal or turquoise mocs, you should probably get on that. Just saying.

Teal moccasins - Urbanog
Rose-printed tee - Forever 21

What I wore today: 11/04/2012 (Black and Tan)

Truth time: Approximately 30 seconds after taking these photos, I tripped on my flatforms and, in my (thankfully successful) efforts to save my camera, ended up skinning the ever-loving-beJESUS out of both my knees and completely ruining these tights. They are now both shredded and bloodstained. They have been put to rest with highest honors.
So, the truth is that, for most of the day, I wore different, much less cute, tights. But I still had to share my intentioned outfit for the day. I like the idea of taking a simple black-and-tan color palette and executing it throughout my outfit (belt, shoes, tights). The tights, a favorite, will be replaced, mark my words. I can't live in a world without punctuation tights!
"They look like your legs are cursing," was Ryan's reaction when he first saw them. Ohhhhhhhh, how I want them back!
For now, though, my legs are cursing out loud and uncensored. I seriously wrecked my knees. Ouch.
