What I wore today: 12/05/2012 (New Loves)

New loves outfit: black sneaker wedges, gray AG "Stevie" jeans, black and white striped tank, beige blazer, wool rancher hat, black leather bag

This outfit features two of my newest loves: the same $30-dollar Target sneakers wedges from this post now in black (because when a pair of shoes is only $30 and you find yourself wearing them nearly every day, a second pair isn't a bad idea) and this gorgeous Italian-made wool hat that I'd been coveting for a long time at work. Ryan thinks the hat looks like something Carly Simon would have worn in the '70s.

Both items are instant wardrobe classics for me, and help to add interest to a simple androgynous outfit of neutrals for a walk to the library and a big bowl of udon soup around the corner from our apartment. I do love december evenings with my Ryan.

Fictional Fashion Icon: Annie Hall

Fictional Fashion Icon: Annie Hall

Even though one of them is fictional, the three women that come to your mind first, when I mention women who look sexy in menswear, are probably Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn, and Annie Hall. You may also have thought of Lady Gaga, but I don't mean women in drag; I mean women who look like the sexy women that they are while wearing a suit.

It's a testament to her style that Annie Hall can hold her own next to such icons as Dietrich and Hepburn. And it's a testament to Diane Keaton, because, after all, there's a lot of Keaton in Hall.

Like last month's Fictional Fashion Icon, Alex from Flashdance, Annie Hall has had a huge influence on fashion, and Annie's almost timeless style remains relevant decades after it first made a splash. Her neutral color palette, baggy-and-cinched silhouettes, and whimsically sexy take on menswear continues to inspire generation after generation of fashion-loving movie viewers.

Yes, the late '70s was a magical time for fashion, and almost everyone looked pretty awesome -- I mean, Woody Allen's outfits in the film are pretty fantastic too -- but Annie's style is a cut above you average '70s-chic ensemble. She has a unique point of view and she's not afraid to dress differently than everyone else.

And it's her signature pieces that endure: her vests, her wide-brimed hats, her scarves, her amber-tinted glasses, and the way she layers spaghetti-strap camisoles and dresses over t-shirts.

What I wore today 11/25/2011 (Versace a game of tennis?)

In case you're thinking this is just a photo shoot and that I didn't actually wear my new Versace for H&M skirt to play tennis, let me assure you that I totally did.

Why? For one thing, it arrived (I ordered it from eBay since my local H&M didn't carry the line) just as I was preparing to head to the tennis courts. I tried it on and realized that, with its pleats, it was actually quite perfect for tennis.

Plus, I'm still the way I was when I was 4 years old: as soon as I buy something new, I want to wear it right way, regardless of whether it suits the occasion.

Tennis outfit: Versace for H&M silk pleated skirt, Brooks running shoes, Champion sports bra, vintage Wilson tennis racket

What I wore today 10/22/2011 (Floral blazer)

I like how the icy blue green of this deep-V American Apparel tee plays with the same notes in the blazer. Oh, color!

You've seen these jeans a lot lately, and I'm actually wearing them again now as I type this. I can't help loving them so much. They make my legs look longer than long and I love how versatile they are - I can wear them with crop-tops and regular-length tops alike. Lovely.

What I wore today 10/09/2011 (Jack Day @ Wiley's)

Yesterday was what my mom and I call Jack Day, her deceased father's birthday that we like to celebrate by thinking of him and making fudge the old fashioned way like he used to. We haven't celebrated properly since I was a kid, but a year still never passes that I don't remember to think of him.

Last night, Ryan and I drove up to Dayton to perform at Wiley's Comedy Club (Ohio's oldest), which was a blast. Today I'm going to be making some fall treats for my writing group. Probably pumpkin whoopie pies, possibly caramel apple bites, or maybe even pumpkin fudge as a little nod to Granddaddy. We'll see. I'll post pictures for you guys for sure.

Anyway, here's what I wore last night . . .
