First pictures of new DIY shirt-sleeve skirt

Here is one of the skirts that I made out of mens' shirt sleeves. More photos of others to come.

To buy boots or not to buy boots

These are lovely and I adore how they're kind of rugged. But do I really need them when I have the ones below, which are somewhat similar?

Chanel-bag-inspired flats

I love these cute flats from ModCloth. They make me think of a Chanel Bag.

How to Make a Skirt From Two Mens' Shirts

I've recently become obsessed with ThreadBanger, and this tutorial was particularly inspirational.

After watching it last night, I went to Goodwill today (where everything happened to be 50% off -- just my luck) and bought 24 shirts in complimentary colors. I made one skirt today (will post a pic soon) and plan on making many more in the next couple days.

Sunglass shape being influenced by Mad Men?

In a collection largely influenced by the womanly silhouette of the '50s and early '60s, Louis Vuitton also presented some sunglasses reminiscent of the same era.

Observe:

Though the lacework in them is something new altogether, the shape is almost hinting at the cat eye glasses that my grandmother used to wear.

See the resemblance?:

So with the idea that Mad Men-esque designs might be appearing in eye wear next, I was not too, too surprised to see these babies, available from Nasty Gal.

Eh?

A bit too costumey for my taste, but following the same trend nonetheless.

Oversize flowers are back and bigger than ever

I watched the Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 show last night (live on marcjacobs.com) and couldn't help but notice the tons and tons of giant flowers that adorned the many looks on the runway. Some were simple oversize lapel flowers like Carrie used to wear in Sex and the City, while others were placed in the hair. Some were fastened to the neck like scarves, while others were placed at the waistband of a dress, two or three at a time. And then there's my favorite: an incredible brown leather flower belt.

Anna Sui and Patterned Tights: "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things."

I am so in love with Anna Sui's new line of tights, particularly these two pairs:

P.S. The Style.com app for my iPhone is my new favorite thing in life.

Snoopy Wolf Shirt

Talking Harry Potter again but tangentially.

Anyone remember the controversy a while back when photos were leaked of Emma Watson drinking beer underage? This photo came out.

I couldn't care less about the scandal, but how great is her top. It's a typical wolf shirt with a snoopy image kind of appliqued or ironed on top of it. I love how random the mixed images are and yet it almost makes since because they are both dogs. I wanted to make one when I saw the photo and it's been years and I just remembered it. Must do that.

Nerd Alert!

Yes, I love Harry Potter. And since I saw Goblet of Fire in theaters (on opening night of course) years ago I've wanted a hat like the Beauxbaton students have. I don't want it for a costume or anything, just to wear. I think their so cute.

So I've found some patters for knitting and then felting your own hat, and though I don't have any felting experience yet, I think I might have to give it a shot. I image I can tweak the pattern enough to give it that asymmetrical Hershey's kiss top and adjust the brim in the felting process.

Chictopia

I've signed up for a Chictopia account and given the sight the once over, but I'm not sure how active I'll be on there if at all. I know people who like it more than lookbook.nu, but so far to me it seams like the myspace to lookbook's facebook -- i.e.: more confusing with features you don't need and too many people just dicking around.

Yes there are a couple features on it that I like that aren't on lookbook.nu (as there were on myspace), but so far I'm not too impressed. We'll see.

The Mother of Invention

Oh my God, new obsession. I mean, OBSESSION! Just got an American Apparel Bandeau Dress on sale (they're transitioning them out, so get one NOW!) and I have never been more blown away by a garment before. Sure, I've seen things that claim they can be worn 15 different ways, but usually those ways aren't all that different. For example, American Apparel's Le Sac Dress, which be worn a few ways, all of which were pretty similar (and none of which looks good on a busty girl like me).

...Or there will be a lot of ways to wear something, most of which are so silly you'd never actually do it. For example the Unisex Circle Scarf:

Come on, is anyone really wearing that thing as a mini dress? It's way too bulky. That's just silly. (I incidentally love my circle scarf; it's just that I love it 3 ways, not 13.)

But the Bandeau Dress. It actually lives up to the hype. There are actually 15 ways to wear it that vary considerably to give you every kind of neckline you could imaging. Plus you can wear it as a high-waisted or low-waisted skirt. Plus as a halter top. (I've also come up with a second top option which I will try to post a photo of later.) AND it's comfortable, doesn't require a bra (even for my bazoomas), and has an extremely flattering A-line shape that skims and never clings. I cannot say enough about this dress. I know I sound like I'm being paid to endorse it, but if I were, I couldn't have criticized Le Sac.

Anyway, check it out!:

That photo should give you the idea, but if you've bought your own and are wondering how to do one of the styles above, this video can show you how.

Right now I have it in evergreen (one of the only colors left in the store), and I think I'll get another online in black and possibly one in cranberry.
