What I wore today: 12/07/2013 (Snow Day)

I love the snow! I don't think I'll ever outgrow the excitement of the first big snow of the year (or the second or the third or the fourth!)

It started snowing Friday night while I was at work. Ryan met me there after so we could eat Japanese food and do our Christmas shopping. It was kind of nice to shop in a nearly empty mall in the middle of a snowstorm, and my Subaru got us home safely (I drove Ryan to pick up his car the next morning once the roads were plowed).

Saturday was bright and sunny, with lots of light reflecting off the beautiful snow and barely any wind so it didn't feel that cold. My mom and I got lunch at a wine shop and went to my first wedding gown fitting. It was a perfect snow day!

This coat is from Forever 21. One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give you is to buy lots of Forever 21 coats. They are cheap as hell, which means you can buy a variety of trendy patterned once, which means you don't have to wear basically the same outfit all winter long(since your coat is often all anyone sees of your outfit). I have one quality neutral coat and a bunch of trendy Forever 21 coats.

As for the hat, Ryan bought it for me at Topshop on our last morning in Chicago last year. At lunch, my mom told me, "You should never not wear that hat again." Ha!

What I wore today: 12/23/2012 (It's Not Easy Photographing Green)

Despite the fact that these corduroys read black in all the full-body shots I took, they are actually a lovely green color. Sometimes you can't shoot in ideal light and you just have to try your best. Oh, well. 

Because yesterday was my family's day to celebrate Christmas all together (since my brother's family is going to Louisville to see his wife's parents), I wanted to wear something cozy, comfortable, and festive. But then I watched The Devil Wears Prada while painting my nails, and that movie always puts me in the mood for lots of black and shoulder pads. This outfit was the compromise I eventually came to. 

The next few days are going to be a whirlwind. We've got plans to have dinner with Ryan's extended family at a banquet hall tonight and to spend Christmas morning with the nephews. Christmas evening, we're having both sets of parents to our apartment for a meal. Wish me luck on my first Christmas dinner hosting experience ever!

What I wore today: 04/16/2012 (Sweatshirt/blazer)

I know it sounds crazy, but gray is truly one of my favorite colors. I know that, technically speaking, it's not even a color. But, it's just so soft and comforting. I love silver as well.

Gray is like comfort food. There are few things more sartorially comforting than a simple silver ring worn every day of a soft heather gray sweatshirt. Color and pattern are great (anyone who's seen my apartment or read my blog knows I'm a big fan), but sometimes it's nice to strip things down and get back to basics.

As Coco Chanel said, "Luxury must be comfortable. Otherwise, it's not luxury."

In that spirit, I've brought you this short outfit post. The Gap sweatshirt is short sleeved, and I just adore the idea of layering a smart blazer over it to make it less casual. The necklace helps everything look a bit more "put together" as well. What do you think? Are you a gray fan?

What I wore today: 04/06/2012 (Steel-toed)

On Friday, we went to see our friend's comedy-CD-recording performance. Actually, on Wednesday, we were seeing another friend record his CD, so we saw 2 CD-recording performances in one week. Not by any means our average.

I love this outfit. The way the pinkish-reds of my blouse, lipstick, and nails all pop together makes it look special even in its simplicity. And I think this blouse (which I got at outlet price!) is very Downton Abbey.

Also, I'm obsessed with the metal caps on these shoes. I think they strike the perfect balance of delicate and edgy.

Plus, I can see my reflection in them if I need to touch up my lipstick or something.

Easter wish list

When I was a kid, I always loved Easter because I got to get a pretty new pastel-colored dress. Years later, I still love it for the same reason . . . oh, and the Reece's eggs don't hurt either. Here are some pretty pastels I'm currently coveting.
