What I wore today: 12/24/2014 (Cozy Christmas Eve)

Not the best photos, sorry. I took them in a rush on the way out the door to the Fohl family Christmas party, and I clearly should have taken more time to select the proper ISO.

That said, I wanted to share this outfit because it is pretty representative of the kind of casual, comfortable look that I've been going to a lot lately. For me, a Christmas outfit should look festive, keep me warm, and feel cozy and comfortable.

November Wish List

As the weather turns quickly colder, I find myself coveting leather skirts, wool jackets, cashmere scarves, and plaid everything. I've also been on a bit of a skincare and haircare kick lately, no doubt inspired by the ravage of harsh winds and dry air.

What I wore today: 02/20/2013 (Horizontal)

I bought this coat at a thrift shop a couple days ago and added the horizontal zipper myself. (Stay tuned for a tutorial, coming Friday). 

One of my favorite unexpected color combinations is red and mint, and I like the way the flecks of red in this coat play off the mint stripes on my shirt. 

It's very cold today. I'm staying in and studying French. Hope your week is going well!

What I wore today: 10/16/2012 (Knotted Maxi)

I've been wearing my new ankle boots with short skirts and cuffed jeans a lot. But, the other day, it occurred to me that they might just work with a maxi skirt, knotted to show off my new kicks. 

And, just like that, my favorite summer staple made its way into fall.

What I wore today: 03/04/2012 (Nautical Turban)

Here's another way to keep Nautical from looking too cliché: add an unexpected element (like a turban) to give the look a new twist. Literally . . . twisting is what keeps the turban up. :)

Some will say wearing a silk scarf as a turban is ridiculous. I'm prepared for that reaction. In fact, I was even a bit nervous Ryan wouldn't like it, though it turned out that he did. Part of fashion, for me at least, is trying new things and taking risks. Otherwise you get bored, and style never changes or evolves.

For those not familiar with it, that behind me is the beautiful skyline of my hometown, Cincinnati, as seen from the Kentucky side of the river. Ryan took these photos just before we saw Wanderlust at the cinema on the levee.

What I wore today: 02/10/2012 (Finally Snow)

Finally we have some actual snow: some pretty, fluttering, white flakes. It finally looks like winter outside my window. I hope we can get some stickage, because I want to go roll around in the stuff!

I love brown and blue together. It's a bit of an unexpected color combination that always looks surprisingly chic. I knitted this scarf back in high school with some yummy, thick, knubbly, wool yarn. It's a favorite for sure.

What I wore today 10/19/2011 (Leopard and turban)

I guess it's appropriate I wore leopard print today, since apparently there were wild animals running all over just north of town. It's quite a sad story, actually.

This scarf was knitted for me by my dear friend Barb. I discovered today that it can also be worn as a turban. Love it.
