As fall approaches, I long for good leather boots, sweaters and sweatshirts with a touch of sparkle, and long quartz necklaces. What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

What I wore today: 03/17/2013 (Peppermint Patty)

I don't always wear so, so much green on St. Patrick's Day. But, the day before I went to a party where everyone but me was wearing green, so I felt the need to prove my spirit. Naturally, by the actually day, everyone was over it and I was the only one wearing a lot of green.

Somedays, I just can't keep up with the crowd.

Ryan and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day. We usually stay in and make dinner, but, this year, we decided to catch the Cincinnati Ballet's production of Romeo and Juliet. I talked about about Ryan's recent enthusiasm for ballet here. I'm absolutely delighted that we can share this passion.

Other people are always surprised to learn that he loves ballet (and often times, straight up don't believe me). But, for me it seems natural for a man to love ballet, because my father and grandfather both do. In fact, they are both more enthusiastic about it than their wives. 

Of course, I also can't bring myself to find chest hair normal because the men in my family don't have much of it. What can I say? Maybe the men in my family are just a bunch of hairless, ballet-loving sissies, but I like them that way.

What I wore today: 09/06/2012 (Dark Tones)

I wore this outfit to go out to dinner with Ryan and then to see Ruby Sparks. It incorporates some of my favorite trends -- colored denim, a peplum, polkadots, flatforms -- but it doesn't feel overly trendy to me; just casual and comfortable.

I'm not normally drawn to deeper shades (I like brights and pastels), but lately, especially with the approach of fall, I've been into dark, bruised, broody colors.

What I wore today: 05/03/2012 (Double Dots)

Technically, I guess this should be called "Triple Dots" since the laces in my shoes have tiny dots on them as well (closeup image here), but the main focus of this outfit was my idea to pair these two navy and white polkadot pieces with each other. I love that one is the inversion of the other and that the dots aren't the same size. And yet, all day long, I had people ask me if it was a dress. Even Ryan thought it was at first, and he's used to my crazy pattern mixing.

That's what just so great about mixing patterns that have the same color story; the result is quirky but still seems to make since. As for the polkadot laces in my shoes, that was probably overkill. But it's warm weather again, and, since I thrifted them in December I've only had one other opportunity to wear them, so they demanded to come out. I couldn't tell them no. They were making puppy-dog eyes at me. 

Oh, also, the necklace. I made it for an Anne Boleyn Halloween costume a few years back. Google Anne Boleyn and you'll find several portraits of her wearing one just like it (well, mine is made from Sculpey, but otherwise they're identical). You might also have seen it in The Other Boleyn Girl. Since my last name also starts with a B, I see no reason not to wear it in my everyday life.

What I wore today: 04/12/2012 and DI(fr)Yday: bleached-message tee

Today, I'm bringing you a twofer. See, who says Friday the 13th is unlucky? For this week's DI(fr)Yday, I made this cute bleached-message tee, and I wore it out last night. (Insider tip, I don't actually always do the DIYs on a Friday.)

This project is from one of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, and you can find the tutorial here. For my version, I bought a tee on sale at Gap (in burgundy, one of my favorite colors), and painted a cute French phrase on it, lyrics from the song "Un Éléphant Me Regarde" by Antoine . . .

As for the rest of the outfit . . .

The jeans are new. I just love colored jeans for spring, and this dusty rose pair were so pretty that I had to scoop them up while I was at Gap. The shoes are a favorite pair of mine. I think they're just Forever 21, but I found them in a vintage shop. The blazer is one of those simple, classic pieces that looks a bit more special when you roll up the sleeves to reveal a pretty striped lining.

I do love a blazer with sleeves rolled to bracelet length. So sophisticated and feminine, don't you agree?

What I wore today: 04/06/2012 (Steel-toed)

On Friday, we went to see our friend's comedy-CD-recording performance. Actually, on Wednesday, we were seeing another friend record his CD, so we saw 2 CD-recording performances in one week. Not by any means our average.

I love this outfit. The way the pinkish-reds of my blouse, lipstick, and nails all pop together makes it look special even in its simplicity. And I think this blouse (which I got at outlet price!) is very Downton Abbey.

Also, I'm obsessed with the metal caps on these shoes. I think they strike the perfect balance of delicate and edgy.

Plus, I can see my reflection in them if I need to touch up my lipstick or something.
