What I wore today 09/20/2011 (Fall Monochrome-a-Go-Go!)

I don't usually wear monochrome tan outfits, but prefer to pair the neutral with bright colors. However, in a fit of early-fall madness, I decided to go monochrome-a-go-go today. It was especially fun because I'd been recently inspired by some of my favorite fellow fashion bloggers posting fall outfits in shades of pumpkin and brown.

So, I slicked on some orange lipstick and piled on the orangey-brown.

By the way, here's a tip. If you want to wear flesh tones without washing yourself out (though, to be perfectly honest I sometimes think washed out looks pretty - call me crazy, but I do) then you should go a few shades darker or lighter than your natural color. For example, the dress I'm wearing, which is still in the flesh tones family, but isn't so close to my natural skin color.

P.S. I usually don't get all matchy-matchy, but sometimes I can't help it, (explanation here), and when I do dress matchy-matchy, I go all out. This means that, yes, my underthings are also leopard print today. It just makes me feel ultra pulled-together and a bit retro.

Harvest Home Fair

Last weekend Ryan and I went to the Harvest Home Fair, which was always a staple of my childhood. I wanted to share it with him. There's a horse show where people compete in weird games, lots of rides and food, and a creepy wooden box called "The Cave" that I used to crawl around in as a kid (I remember it being bigger and more impressive). All in all, it's a fun festival. We also saw this super fun cover band we like called the Naked Karate Girls perform. A short video at the end of this post will give you an idea of what they're like.

What I wore today 09/14/2011 (Missoni madness!)

I knew all the great Missoni for Target stuff would go quickly, so I made sure to set an iCal reminder on my iPhone and make it into my favorite Target store on the day of the launch (yesterday). As it happened, my day was quite full and I could only stop in for about a half hour, so I made sure to go at top speed and plan well for maximum shopping effect.

I spent all my time in women's wear since that's where the stuff I wanted the most is. I took way too many items into the dressing room than allowed by slipping in when the attendant wasn't looking. Then, I tried things on and made quick decisions. I think I did well. In addition to this dress, I bought three other dresses, one t-shirt, and one slouchy cardigan.

You know me; I love dresses.

I'll let you see the rest in future outfit posts, but for now, here's what I'm wearing today. The belt is one of three that I bought at Anthropologie recently and have been getter a lot of use out of. The shoes are from Forever 21 by way of NVision, a local vintage/consignment shop. I adore how they are brogue inspired, their colors, and especially the late 1960's-inspired wide heel.

What I wore today 09/06/2011 (storage treasures)

Underbelly, my comedy group, is performing tonight, and I'm playing Lady Gaga in a sketch, so I was going through my costume trunk to find some old dance costumes, etc. that might work. I decided on a teal tie-dyed stretch velveteen body suit, lime green lace opera-length gloves, a pink feather wig, and one of those eery blank white face masks.

But, while I was going through the costume trunk I also found this old sequin blazer from when my dance team did a number to Michael Jackson's "Bad" when I was 14. Love it. I also found this old t-shirt from the Bush years in my closet. So today my outfit is all about reworking retro pieces from high school.
