Planning a floral and lace dress for a spring wedding

With my brother's wedding coming in May, I've been putting some thought into what to wear. It's going to be an incredibly important and festive day, so I want to express my celebratory feelings at such a joyous and momentous time with something special.

Also, the wedding will be outdoors in Hocking Hills, near amish country, where it's really beautiful, and, since it's springtime (and since I'm me), florals are coming to mind.

So, one of the things I'm considering is making a special dress for the event. I have an idea of one to make, inspired by this look from Erdem's Spring 2011 collection that I so love.

Whether I ultimately wear what I make to the wedding or not, will depend on how I feel about it when it's done, but I'm going to make it no matter what. Here's my plan:

-basic floral shift

-white lace rounded yoke in front

-white lace three-quarter-length sleeves with elastic incased in cuffs

Spring 2011 trend: lace

One of my favorite trends for spring is lace. It's so romantic and feminine, so nostalgic, and yet it can be modern and cutting-edge at the same time. Traditionally lace was always white, and though nowadays you can find it in almost any color, I still prefer neutrals for their ability to showcase the texture.

After all, what could be more elegant for spring than a simple white lace dress as shown by Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana, or a white lace dress with a black sash as shown by Oscar de la Renta? And wouldn't the fun shape of Vivienne Westwood's lace dress and the sparkle or the one by Valentino be overshadowed if they were brightly colored?

So, take part in the bright colors trend of spring 2011 all you want, but when you wear lace, keep it neutral.

In love with Erdem's Spring 2011 collection

For me, regardless of current trends, spring is all about floral dresses, white lace, and showing a little skin in an innocent and youthful way. That's why I am so excited about the spring 2011 collection Erdem has put out. From the floral-and-lace above-the-knee dresses to the shoes that lace up the ankle like point shoes, to the braided wreaths of hair all the models were rocking, this collection spoke to me in the eternal voice of spring fashion and what it will always mean to me, in 2011 and beyond.
