Fictional Fashion Icon: Amélie Poulain

Fictional Fashion Icon: Amélie Poulain
For me, Amélie Poulain is the perfect Fictional Fashion Icon to celebrate at Christmas time. For one, because the movie is so cozy, joyous, lovely, and nostalgic for me -- in short, it gives me the same feelings Christmas itself does. But, I think it's appropriate also because Amelie's main color scheme in her outfits and through her apartment is a mix of deep reds and rich greens.

Of course, Amélie is quite the icon for me in areas other than fashion as well. That movie changed my life; I think it changed a lot of lives, so everything about it will always be close to my heart.

But, there's no denying, even if you haven't seen the movie (and, if you haven't, go see it immediately; it's one of the greatest films of all time), that Amélie has a unique style all her own. From her baby bangs and cropped haircut to the doc martens she walks all over Paris in.

There's such whimsy to the way she dresses. When she goes undercover, she goes all out with a scarf and sunnies, looking like an old movie star.

And, like past Fictional Fashion Icon Margot Tenenbaum, Amélie is seen in her bathroom wearing a slip. What is it about slips that makes them so lovely?

And speaking of her bathroom, Amélie's apartment is amazing and such a huge inspiration to me. Like in her wardrobe, greens and reds dominate with splashes of blue.

I have a print of that awesome Michael Sowa painting of the dog that hangs above Amélie's bed. I love it. I would snatch up that pig lamp is a second as well if I ever saw one like it. You see, Everything about the film is so iconic for me. I can't see a green of red full knee-legnth skirt or lacy crocheted cardigan without thinking of Amélie, nor can I see a garden gnome, a photo booth, crème brûlée, or even Zoro. ;)

P. S. I love Amélie so much, that, when Ryan and I were in Paris, we made sure to stop by Le Deux Moulins, the Café where Amélie works in the film. That's right, it's a real place.

  1. I love Audrey Tatou, she's so beautiful I've been in love with her since she played Coco, I'll definitely check that film out!

  2. Amélie still seeks solitude. She amuses herself with silly questions about the world. I would love to see her comedy romantic movies.

  3. I love Amelie so much, I used to cut my hair like hers. I can never get tired of this film, even if full length skirts and doc martens make me look odd. The colour red is always perfect for me

  4. You can buy the pig lamp. Try Google for it. Just popped through my Facebook but I didn't keep the link. :)
