What I wore today 10/31/2011 (All Hallow's Eve)

IMG_3661

Since Saturday was for costumes, I showed my Halloween spirit today in street clothes.

For some reason, braids have always seemed quite witchy to me. Maybe it has to do with The Worst Witch or even Wednesday Adams, but they all feel appropriate for Halloween.

Do you recognize the cardigan from the recent Missoni for Target line?

IFB asks "How do you personalize your cell phone?"

The latest project from Independent Fashion Bloggers is to show cell phone personalization.

Well, I don't have a case for my iPhone because I like to live dangerously its sleek, white, look. But, I do like to showcase my style and my Chanel obsession with my phone's wallpaper.

Say Anything Halloween

FotoFlexer_Photo

Ryan and I had a blast dressing as Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court for Halloween. And we were even recognized by people at both the parties we went to, as well as strangers at the grocery store and someone whose car pulled up next to us at a red light. Yay for movie references! And yay for love stories!

What I wore today 10/28/2011 (Puss in Boots)

Ryan and I were super excited to see Puss and Boots on opening night, because we are huge dorks and cat lovers and Antonio Banderas lovers. I had to wear boots, of course.

I mentioned back in August that I'm pretty obsessed with the equestrian look. Back then, I had just bought these lovely riding pants from the Gap, but it was too hot to do an all-out equestrian look with boots and a blazer, so I made the most of it with this look.

Now, however, the weather is perfect to make my equestrian dreams come true.

DI(fr)Yday: Diane Court costume

For this week's DI(f)Yday, I made my Diane Court costume for Halloween. Ryan is going to be Lloyd Dobler. If these names mean nothing to you, see explanation here.

At first I had trouble finding the perfect white taffeta dress I needed, but then I found this one at Casablanca while Ryan and I were in Northside apartment shopping. Casablanca is an old favorite vintage shop that I used to frequent in high school, when it was mainly piles of stained clothing with no price tags. They have become much more organized lately, even sorting things according to color. Ryan hadn't been before, but he enjoyed the trip. He even got a 1980s plaid vest.

It was almost there, but not quite right . . .

So, I transformed it into something more akin to her dress from the party scene in the movie by cutting off all the froufrou, ditching the sash, and hemming it by about a foot.

I then made the bottom excess into her wrap (after some fierce stain removal that is).

For the flower in her hair, I bought a white poinsettia at Hobby Lobby (I think hers was a hibiscus, but all the hibiscuses I found weren't quite the shape I was looking for) and hot glued it to a hair clip. First though, I removed the spacers to make the flower a bit flatter, thusly . . .

What do you think? Pretty close, huh?

I'll post pictures of Ryan and me in our costumes later this weekend. Take care!
